In dealing with tremor symptoms, doctors will usually perform therapy with the aim of relieving symptoms and improving the sufferer’s quality of life. Handlers include:
- Oral Medicine
To treat tremors in Parkinson’s sufferers, at least two or three different drugs are needed before finding the right drug in the patient’s body. There are three types of drugs used for Parkinson’s sufferers, namely levodopa, dopamine agonists and monoamine oxidase-B inhibitors. However, several studies reveal that consuming CBD Oil every day for 4 weeks can relieve psychotic symptoms, especially in people with Parkinson’s and psychosis.
- Botox injections
Botox is a botulinum toxin that can be used for Parkinson’s sufferers by injecting it into a muscle. The effect is even faster than the drugs taken by mouth.
- Surgery
If oral drugs and Botox injections are not effective, it is necessary to perform deep brain stimulation surgery or commonly called DBS (Deep Brain Stimulation).
DBS surgery if successful can relieve Parkinson’s symptoms, so that the patient’s quality of life will be better, although the risk of this surgery is also quite high.
DBS is done by implanting electrodes into the inner brain, so that it is expected to stimulate dopamine production and brain cells can return to work optimally. However, not all Parkinson’s sufferers can perform this operation. There are several conditions that must be met, including:
- Patients Under 70 Years Old
This condition must be met. As you get older, your brain will experience a decline in function. If the operation is performed on patients who are over the age of 70 years, the chances of successful surgery are very small.
- The Body Can Respond to Medication
If the patient’s body can respond to Parkinson’s drugs, then his body will also respond to the stimulation that will be given during the DBS action.
- Already Received Treatment for Five Years
A five-year history of Parkinson’s medication to confirm that the person has Parkinson’s. Therefore, Parkinson’s disease only shows its development after five years of suffering.
DBS surgery is performed if the patient has entered stages 3 and 4. Because at stages 1 and 2 treatment can still be done with drugs. Meanwhile, in stage 5 the dopamine hormone-producing brain cells are difficult to stimulate with DBS electrodes.
- Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is used to maintain muscle function in order to remain strong and prevent muscle wasting (atrophy) due to tremors.
These are some of the medications commonly used to treat tremors in people with Parkinson’s. If any of your family suffers from a similar disease, consult a neurologist immediately to detect the stage of the disease and find out the right treatment. Thus, sufferers can have a better quality of life.
